Established in 1968, Vintage Wine Cellar is a family business offering customers the world’s finest wines and spirits. Because we direct import wines and have sources around the world, we are able to offer our customers great selection and pricing. Since we are a family run business, it is our goal to offer excellent and personalized service. We are Hawaii's oldest fine wine and spirit retailer.
It was started in 1968 by Allen Kam who had developed a love for wine when he worked in San Francisco. Upon returning to Hawaii where he grew up, Allen couldn’t find good wine so he started shipping wine from California for his personal consumption. Other people found out, and requested the next time Allen brought wine in for himself, he get an extra case or two for them. So Vintage Wine Cellar was born. Allen expanded the business and became the leading retailer in Hawaii. Vintage Wine Cellar was the first store outside of California to sell wine from Ridge Vineyards, Schramsberg…and many other California classics. Allen was one of the first Asians to visit France and set up contacts with negociants and winery owners. 1975 was the first vintage Vintage Wine Cellar sold Bordeaux futures.
Allen passed away in 2005, but the business still survives. His son, Jay, has taken over and is running the business. Jay grew up around the store. He worked his way up from stockboy/warehouse worker/delivery boy to President. Jay has a keen palette and always is ahead of the curve with selections.
