A great vintage for dry white wines, and a successful vintage for red wines that are full bodied and classic.

2018, 2019 and 2020 are all great vintages for Bordeaux wines. 2020 might be regarded as the best amongst the three, but 2019 has some things going for it. First it is a classic vintage with traditional styled Bordeaux wines. Second the quality across the board is uniform and homogenous. Both Merlot and Cabernet did equally well. As they say a rising tide lifts all boats, so you’ll find quality in all levels and price ranges from petit chateau and cru bourgeois to the famous classified growths. Lastly, but most importantly, 2019 is the least expensive vintage amongst 2018, 2019 and 2020. The lower prices are not a reflection of quality; it is more to do with the pandemic. 2019 vintage was put on the marketplace in the early summer of 2020 when there was still a ton of uncertainty about the pandemic. The financial uncertainty caused by the pandemic put pressure on Bordeaux to keep the prices down. Also at the time the US Government had imposed a 25% tariff on European wines being imported into the country. The 25% tariff has since been removed. 2019 is across the board cheaper than both 2018 and 2020. There are tons of steals to find in the 2019 vintage. One of the pleasures of the 2019 vintage is to findi the wines that give the most bang for the buck, and often times that is in the lower end. The 2019 vintage is definitely a vintage to explore for the high quality/price ratio.
