2014 Fort Ross Seaview Chardonnay Fort Ross Vineyard  $39.99

Fort Ross Vineyard is located on the Sonoma Coast mountaintop near the mouth of the Russian River.  It is the closest vineyard to the ocean in the newly designated Fort Ross-Seaview, Sonoma Coast appellation.  The vineyard is located above the fog line between 1.200’ and 1,700 feet elevation.  Being above the fog line is important because it allows the grapes to ripen from the uninterrupted sunlight, but they also retain acidity due to the cool temperature.  The resulting wine is full of ripe fruit flavors with acidity that keeps the wine in balance.

For all its concentration, this is a pretty and delicate wine.  Pear, melon and citrus fruit are enhanced by toast and mineral.  There is some cream and butter from the the partial malolactic fermentation giving the wine some depth and palate feel.  Gentle, well integrated acidity keeps the fruit, cream and butter in check.

94 Points - Wine Advocate, Robert Parker

The 2014 Chardonnay Fort Ross Vineyard is a beauty. It spent 10 months in 30% new French oak (785 cases) and shows notes of crushed wet rock, crisp orange blossom, white currant and discrete oak. Some poached pear also makes an impression in this unfined and unfiltered Chardonnay that should drink nicely for 5 to 7 years. Early -  Drink 2016-2023
